Annual Turnover Rate

This is the share of your crew that leaves and has to be replaced each year. It's one of the three costs this calculator adds up, alongside lost productivity and heat incidents.

Heat-exposed roles churn faster than climate-controlled ones, and every replacement carries real cost: recruiting, onboarding, and the ramp-up time before a new hire is fully productive. We model roughly $8,000 per replaced worker, and the "Climate exposure" setting adds heat-accelerated turnover on top of your baseline.

Hot Days & Climate Exposure

These follow the heat-index thresholds OSHA and state heat rules use, so your numbers line up with the standard your safety program is already measured against.

What counts as a hot day: any working day where the heat index reaches 80°F or higher during the shift. Heat index combines temperature and humidity, so a humid 82°F day counts even though the thermometer looks mild. Count scheduled work days only.

Climate exposure levels:

Mild — heat index typically 80–85°F at peak. Occasional warm stretches, mostly shaded or ventilated work.

Moderate — peaks commonly 85–95°F. Regular sun exposure, some humidity. Afternoon fatigue noticeable.

Hot — peaks routinely 95–103°F, crossing OSHA’s 90°F high-heat trigger most days. Direct sun, heavy PPE, or hot indoor processes.

Extreme — sustained 103°F+ heat index, or radiant-heat work (roofing, foundries, confined spaces) where effective exposure far exceeds air temperature.
